What Is a Dental Spa and How Do I Sign Up?

Updated: 1/27/2020

Many people deal with anxiety: parents, teachers, CEOs. Being anxious over a dental appointment isn’t uncommon among many patients. That’s why, about a decade ago, some dentists came up with a crazy new fad: The Dental Spa – an innovative place that was part dental office, part spa. The point of this bizarre combination was to help nervous clients relax as they had their teeth worked on. Here’s the even crazier thing: it worked! In fact, dental spas have become more and more popular over the past few years.

And while you don’t necessarily “sign up” for a dental spa as implied by the title of our article, after hearing more about it you’ll wish you could!

So, What Is a Dental Spa, Anyways?

Like we mentioned before, it’s part dental office, part spa – and depending on the one you go to, that can mean different things. The perks of the “spa” part can vary from massages to TV entertainment. The overall goal is to reduce an anxious client’s stress level. Some of the offices are even structured like an actual spa – with low light and comfy seating.

Other Benefits of Dental Spas…

Besides the comfort of the spa itself, dentists have confirmed that it’s actually a safer method of dentistry. Since the patients are relaxed, it makes the dentist’s job easier – and with less risk of injury to the client. This method is also a great alternative for someone who has a phobia of pain. Going to the dental spa helps take their mind off what the dentist is actually doing, allowing for an easier, smoother and altogether less stressful appointment.

Where Are Dental Spas?

Ever since the dental spa came to be, its popularity has flourished. So far, there are several in the United States and Europe. For the U.S., dental spas have appeared in…

    • North Texas
    • California
    • North East/East coast area

The easiest way to locate a dental spa near you is Google. Just type in “dental spa” with your state/city/ or zip code, and voila!

While at first the idea can seem extreme, dental spas have proved their worth over the years. If you struggle with anxiety or stress over any aspect of dental appointments, check out a dental spa. It might just be your new favorite thing.
