Endodontic therapy is a common necessity for many people, however root canals and other such procedures may be turning obsolete. A recent report in the ACS Nano monthly journal released the findings of a new nano-sized dental film that applies a substance called, alpha melanocyte stimulating hormone, or alpha-MSH.
This hormone contains anti-inflammatory properties that helps restore damaged tooth pulp cells. These cells, called fibroblasts, are primarily found in tooth pulp and are also found in alpha-MSH – which helps restore the tooth’s pulp back to health. As research continues, this revolutionary substance could eventually eliminate the need for root canals altogether.
