Celebrities are often known for having the picture-perfect, bleached white, “movie star” smile. Often this is a result of numerous post-fame cosmetic procedures and orthodontics, perhaps at the suggestion of others or simply just as the Hollywood cliché. However, some celebrities push peer pressure aside and choose to keep their crooked smile. Why? Many of them attribute their fame and success to it.
Why Not Fix It?
According to a report done by the Emmys Blog, many celebrities are not only choosing to keep their crooked smile, but they are also quite thankful for them.
Actor Steve Buscemi plays a gangster on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. The actor has received both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for the role, but he says he never would have landed the part if it weren’t for his teeth. “I’ve had dentists who have wanted to help me out, but I say, ‘You know, I won’t work again if you fix my teeth,'” says Buscemi.
Singer Jewel also received her first movie role because of her crooked teeth. She played a lower-class farmer-type girl in Ride With the Devil. “The main reason [the director] wanted me was my teeth,” she stated. Her below-average smile was just right for the low key character she played.
Anna Paquin and Kirsten Dunst
Other celebrities with a less-than-perfect smile include Anna Paquin, star of True Blood. She told Us Weekly, “I find it rude when someone asks me why I never ‘fixed’ the gap in my teeth!” Kirsten Dunst has also faced lots of pressure to straighten her teeth. However, this Spiderman star refuses, as she says, “That’s one of the things I like about me. Messed-up teeth are so sexy.”
Typically, crooked or gap teeth are looked at as unattractive and most people opt to fix them. However, a change in perspective may save you from paying thousands of dollars in dental work such as orthodontics or root canals. And, who knows? Deciding to keep your natural smile could even land you a role in a movie!
Hmm… I guess not everyone wants to get their teeth fixed. I understand how they feel though. Some things are better left alone. Although it’s also not a bad idea to get them fixed, especially if it’s really needed, right?
Well, a crooked smile looks good only if the person’s other features are quite good. Otherwise it’s best to fix it, or at least get them whitened and scum-free! Right?! Nice post btw.
