FAQ Series: When Will I Receive My Membership Card?

Updated: 1/1/2020

After signing up for a 1Dental discount plan, your membership card will arrive in the mail in 7-10 business days. Still haven’t seen your card in the mail after 10-15 business days? Let us know!

If you’ve purchased the Careington Care 500 plan, you will be emailed a temporary ID number soon after your purchase. This temporary ID allows you to use the plan immediately!

When you visit an in-network dentist, give the office your temporary ID number and they will call us to verify your account (Note: the phone number is on your temporary ID). At that point, you’re all set to start saving on your dental work!

If you’ve signed up for the Dental Access plan (powered by the Aetna Dental Access Network), you’ll need to allow 7-10 business days for your membership cards to arrive in the mail before you can use your plan. Once the mail packet arrives, you’re all set to make an appointment with an in-network dentist.

What Will the Membership Card Look Like?

When you receive your mail packet, there will be some helpful information to read over about the dental, vision and other discounts included with your membership. Attached to the welcome letter are two membership cards. The membership card examples below are for the Careington Care 500 plan.

The cards will show the subscriber’s first and last name

Member Card C500

If you’ve signed up on a member+dependent plan, the membership cards will show the subscriber’s name and “dependent.”

A family plan’s card will show the subscriber’s name and “family.”

1Dental Membership Card with Familyi

When dependents or family members visit the dentist, the office will call to verify their membership on the plan. It’s important to keep in mind that both plans we offer are administered by Careington International. Whether you’ve signed up for the Careington Care 500 or the Dental Access plan, the membership cards will show a Careington logo somewhere on the card.

The group ID signifies the type of membership plan you have.

All dental offices, regardless of the plan, will call Careington Member Services to verify your account.

Will I Have to Share the Membership Card With Other Members on the Plan?

The mail packet will include two membership cards by default. You can request additional cards for everyone subscribed to the account if there are more than two people. Email us at customercare@1dental.com if you need additional membership cards.

Keep in mind, only the subscriber’s first and last name will appear on the membership card. If you’ve signed up additional members, the card will show “subscriber’s name+dependent.”  When a dependent on the account visits the dentist, the dental office will simply call to verify their subscription to the plan.

What Can I Do If I’ve Lost My Membership Card?

If you’ve lost your card, you can easily order a new one if the account is still active. Submit your request by email to customercare@1dental.com.

It’s helpful to include the subscriber’s name on the account and current mailing address in your email just so we know we’re sending the member cards to the right place. Once the request is submitted, allow 7-10 business days for those cards to arrive in the mail.

Will My Dentist Need a Copy of My Membership Card?

Normally, if the dental office needs a copy of your card, they make one at the office and keep it on file for you. The dental office calls to verify that your account is still active at each appointment.

If you use your Careington Care 500 dental plan before your membership cards arrive in the mail, make sure you give your dental office your permanent member ID card once you receive it in the mail. Your temporary ID and permanent ID are NOT the same.

If you receive your membership card before your dental appointment, it is not necessary to provide the dental office your temporary ID. And with the Dental Access plan, there is no temporary ID. You will need to wait 7-10 business days for your cards to arrive in the mail before visiting a dentist.

  1. I signed up for Careington 500 and paid with my credit card. Next it took me to a page where I could print out my membership card but before I could print it, the page timed out. I can’t get back to that page. How can I print a temporary id card?

  2. I THOUGHT THE CARINGTON 500 PLAN THERE IS IMMEDIATE USAGE AVAILABLE ONCE SIGNING UP. ALL YOU DO IS USE YOUR TEMPORARY ID CARD GIVEN TO YOU IMMEDIATELY AFTER MAKING THE PURCHASE.

  3. We have been looking for a Dentist in our area who takes the Aetna plan, but all we find are the big company run places.. We would like a small practice by a Dentist who is more personal, a small practice where they know your name w/o looking in a file!!!

    • We’re sorry you have had trouble finding a dentist in your area you like. I’ve found many of our Aetna dentists are small practices – but that likely depends on their location. Have you tried looking at our Careington Care dentists? There may be some smaller practices in your area who accept this plan.

If you would like any help in your search, please email us at customercare@1dental.com or give us a call at 800-372-7615 and we’d be happy to help you as best we can!

    • Hi John,

I sincerely apologize for the delay in getting back to you. I spoke with our customer care team and we were having difficulty finding your exact information, as we have a few John Wilson’s who have memberships with us.

Generally, we do not send new cards at renewal time unless the member requests a new card since the ID numbers will not change. But we can definitely get one sent to you.

I have asked one of our customer care representatives to email you at the email I see listed with your comment. You can also reach out to us at customercare@1dental.com and someone will get back to you ASAP.

    • You can download our mobile app (1Dental) and connect your account to the app using your member ID. From there, you will always have your membership card on hand!

If you would like a physical copy of your membership card, please email us at customercare@1dental.com and we will be able to get that sent to you. If you’d like 2 hard copies, please let us know in that email.

    • We understand this is inconvenient, but we are about to release our mobile app where you can update your information at your convenience! In the meantime, you can email us at customercare@1dental.com and we’d be happy to help with that.

  4. Good afternoon!

I renewed my Carington 500 plan this year, but did not receive my card (so obviously I have not been able to use it, despite needing it very much for an extraction, x-rays, cleaning, and more). Can you please contact me at the email I supplied below to get my address to resend? Also, since I didn’t get the card and have not been able to use it, does that still count as part of my year’s subscription? It would be really helpful if it didn’t since I know I have a ton of dental work ahead of me. I’m also a second year/renewed customer if that helps. It prolly doesn’t, but it never hurts to ask! lol! :o) Also, what do I do if the dentist I had won’t answer their phone or return phone calls to book an appointment, but no one else in the area has a good enough rating for me to feel safe going to them? Will you guys be expanding your network to include more dentistry and orthodontic options? I was going to ASPEN, but then they just blipped out and won’t return calls. I checked their reviews and it seems like a lot of patients are having that issue with them. :o/ I really appreciate your time! Have an amazing day! :0)

    • Thank you for reaching out, Crystal. One of our customer care representatives emailed you on August 2nd regarding your query. Did you receive that email from us?

  5. I purchased the carington 500 plan and was supposed to receive an email with my information but never did so.

    • As long as the procedure has an ADA code, it should be discounted with your plan. You can ask a dental provider you wish to see within our network about the discount options with this plan regarding space maintainers.

  6. I’m a member with Carington 500 plan for a year but I never receive my card. And my plan just automatically renew. will I receive new card.

  7. I just signed up, via telephone . I was supposed to reciive a conformation e-mail but never received it. I sign up for 1Dental.

    • Hi Elaine. I do not show you in my system here in this office based on the name and email you provided in your comment here. That doesn’t mean you don’t have the plan; it just means you may not have bought it from our office or you entered a different email when you signed up. You can contact Member Services at (800) 290-0523 or by email at member@careington.com and they can help find you in the system.

  8. I signed up 4/1/2017. I thought I was on the Carington 500 plan and I noticed my card says Dental Access Plan. I am a snowbird in Arizona at the time of signup. My permanent home address is in Cicero NY 13039. Can you clarify this for me. I guess I don’t understand the difference since the cost is the same but benefits are different.

    • I’m sorry there was some confusion with your plan. Could you give our customer care a call at 833-692-5966? They should be able to help sort this out for you!

  9. I have renewed my membership for 3 more years. I was told I use my same membership card. a new one will not be issued to me. is this correct? it doesn’t seem correct.

    • That is correct. Each member has an ID number. This ID number does not expire (unless the member cancels their membership). If you need a new card, you can let us know, but the information will remain the same.

        • Hi Wendy! You can add your family (in fact, the 2nd member is 50% off, and once you get to three members, all other members of your household can be added for free)! You can view pricing options for our family plans at 1dental.com/dental-savings-plans/ To discuss changes to your specific account, please contact our customer care team at 855-329-6305 or email them at customercare@1dental.com.

    • Hi Alexis, have you still not received your card? I’m so sorry for the delay in my response on here. If you ever have questions about your plan, please feel free to email us at customercare@1dental.com. I just sent them an email for you to find out what the status is on your card.
